Dark Days at Saddle Creek

Nefarious and inhumane activities shake the horse show world, and the lives of high-priced horses are thrown into peril. Because of Alberta ‘Bird’ Simms’ highly unusual ability to communicate with animals, an undercover RCMP officer recruits the teenaged Bird -- and her extraordinary horse Sundancer – to delve under the surface and bring the perpetrators to justice.

But while Bird struggles to rescue horses in the dead of night, there are mysteries close to her heart that need investigating. Friends are not who they seem to be – there are enemies in her own stable. Her old mentor, Pete Pierson, is ailing and close to death, and has much to impart before it’s too late.

The Devil’s Dike, the Bank and the Water Jump pose serious challenges for Bird and Sunny in the Caledon Derby, but far more serious and life-changing events are playing out simultaneously.

As her dysfunctional family is on the verge of falling to pieces, she uncovers secrets from her past that reveal who she really is and why she possesses her remarkable ability.

“Accomplished writer, Shelley Peterson demonstrates her considerable expertise in the latest instalment of the Saddle Creek series. Her characters are multi-layered with well defined personalities with strengths and weaknesses, depth and quirks as they face their challenges.”
